Color Choice:  Give your child a sense of ownership in the activity by allowing him or her to choose what color to change the water to!

​Squeeze the Dropper 

P R E V I E W

You will need:

• Medicine dropper
• 2 clear containers
• Water
• Food coloring
• Meat baster

Set up: Place a drop or two of food coloring in one of the containers that has been filled with water.  Show and tell the child that one of the containers is empty and the other one is full.   

Squeeze up the water from the full container and then squeeze out the colored water into the empty container to begin filling it up.  Model and explain the process first to your child, and then give him or her an opportunity to begin doing it with you.

Meat baster: To speed up the process, you may show the child how to use the same process with a large meat baster, preferably transparent so the child can see the liquid. Once the child has the hang of what is expected, allow him or her to work independently.

This activity develops:

• Observational skills and following directions
• Eye-hand coordination and an awareness of empty and full
• Awareness of air and air bubbles
